Grandmother of four, Susan Schroeder, has been sewing and creating needlework for more than 55 years. She's basically young at heart and having four young grandchildren keeps her connected to the latest kids' styles. She enjoys experimenting with different types of yarns and textures, and her creations reflect her love of bright vivid colors.
Susan is a TKGA Master Hand Knitter, a Craft Yarn Council of America certified knitting instructor, and has completed the Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) Master of Advanced Crochet Stitches and Techniques program. Her sewing and needlecraft has won many awards, including blue ribbons at the State Fair of Texas.
Susan graduated Cum Laude from the University of Houston with a BFA in Fine Arts (Visual Communications) and a minor in Consumer Science. For more than 24 years, she has been a freelance senior graphic designer/art director in the oil and gas industry.
How did the name Barking Dog Designs originate? The name is a spin-off from Barking Dog Graphics, the name of Susan's home-based graphic design studio. It was named in honor her cocker spaniel, Georgette, who was the receptionist and greeter.
Susan has been selling online for more than eight years. When she is not running with scissors or pointy sticks, she enjoys working with power tools on home remodeling and construction projects, tending to her garden, and photographing wildflowers.
