Thumbless hand knit baby mittens.
These striped lightweight wool blend thumbless mittens for baby are hand knit in smooth stockinette stitch in random width stripes of solid pink, dark red, bright orange, burgundy, and dark gray. Colors are suitable for a boy or girl. Left and right mitts are interchangeable. Thumbless design allows mittens to easily slip onto tiny hands. Ribbed cuffs gently hug the wrist.
These traditionally knit mittens are made by hand in-the-round for seamless construction. Made with Italian super fine weight yarn with five US size 1 double-pointed needles (not cranked on a machine!) to obtain a gauge of 8 stitches x 12 rows per inch â that's 96 stitches per square inch! This tight gauge creates a fabric that is warm and durable.
The mini no-thumb mitts are joined with a knitted tubular coat string keeper to help prevent them from being lost. To use the coat cord, simply slip each mitten through a jacket sleeve and secure the center of the cord with a safety pin to the inside back neck of the jacket to hold it in place. The knitted tubular cord is thicker and stronger than a simple crocheted chain.
Sized for baby -- approximately 6 to 9 months (15 to 22 lbs) with 3.125" (7.93 cm) hand measurement (measuring from wrist crease to tip of longest finger).
