Hand knit wool blend thumbless baby mittens on a string.
Baby's wool/nylon blend thumbless winter mittens on a coat string are hand knit in smooth stockinette stitch with seamless construction. Left and right mitts are interchangeable. Ribbed cuffs gently hug the wrist.
The no-thumb mittens are joined with a French knit tubular coat cord to prevent them from being lost. Simply slip each mitten through a jacket sleeve and secure the cord with the safety pin (included) to the inside back neck of the jacket to secure the cord in place.
These traditionally crafted mittens are knit by hand in-the-round (not cranked on a machine!) with superfine weight yarn on US size 1 (2.25 mm diameter) double-pointed needles to obtain a gauge (in stockinette stitch) of 9 stitches x 12 rows per inch -- that's 108 stitches per square inch! This fine, tight gauge creates a warm, durable fabric.
Sized for baby -- approximately 3 to 9 months (10 to 22 lbs)
Actual mitten measurements:
Hand length: 3" (7.62 cm) -- measuring from wrist crease to tip of longest finger
Hand width: 2.125" (5.40 cm)
Cuff length: 1.5" (3.81 cm)
Cord length: 33" (83.82 cm)
Color: Design Line Ombre Stripe 4485 -- random width stripes of gray, and shades of brown, purple, and orange. Colorway designed by internationally renowned textile artist Kaffe Fassett. (Note: Because these mittens are knit from self-striping/patterning variegated yarn, no two pairs will ever be exactly the same.)
